Tax Credits For New Air Conditioner or Heat Pump
|
Signed into law on Friday, December 17, 2010, a $858 billion dollar Tax Relief and Benefits package which includes
extension of the 25c Tax Credit for one year, which returns it to pre-stimulus levels.
New Tax Bill specifics as they relate to 25c.
- Eligible taxpayers can claim tax credits of up to $500 in 2011.
- All energy efficiency levels stay at the current levels, except for propane, natural gas, or oil furnace or hot water boiler, which will move to 95% AFUE.
- An individual or household lifetime cap of $500 applies, dating back to January 2005. For example, if an individual has claimed the 25c credit since 2005, for any qualifying upgrade up to or over $500, they would be ineligible to claim the tax credit in 2011.
As of January 1, 2011, the new tax credit levels will be:
- $50 for any advanced main air circulating fan
- $150 for any qualified natural gas, propane or oil furnace or hot water boiler.
- $300 for any item of energy-efficient building property (ex: Central Air/ Heat Pumps)
Homeowners should always consult with a certified tax advisor to ensure that they qualify for the tax credit.
